Bright lights aren’t just an annoyance when you glance in the rear view mirror, they can also pose a safety hazard when you return your gaze to the road ahead with a lingering blind spot caused by the headlights of the car behind you. Auto dimming headlights use an ingenious system to eliminate this issue.

Housed behind the glass of an auto dimming rear view mirror is a gel that reacts to electrical stimulation by darkening. When the mirror detects a bright light, either by using a camera or other sensor, it sends an electrical charge through the gel, initiating the darkening reaction. The surface of the mirror then absorbs much of the oncoming light rather than reflecting it back into your eyes. You will still able to monitor traffic behind you by glancing in the mirror but without the annoying glare.

You can test drive a vehicle with the latest auto dimming technology when you visit Braddock Motors.
